The Company

Springboard is redefining professional education for the 21st century through courses in cutting-edge fields like data science and design. Our self-paced, online offerings give anyone, anywhere access to world-class learning resources. What’s more, we offer high-touch, human support throughout the student lifecycle: industry-expert mentors, career coaches, as well as dedicated student success managers. Through this hybrid approach, we’ve helped thousands of learners revamp their careers and, by extension, their lives.

The Opportunity

As the Director of Learning Experience Design, you will be responsible for taking our world-class offerings and building the strategy that will take our product to the next level. This role serves as an integral thought leader in the company, helping to research and develop Springboard's adult learning strategy across courses and subjects to support our B2C, University Partnerships, and B2B business lines.

The Learning Experience Design Team is responsible for building the course experience from start to finish, playing a pivotal role in allowing Springboard to deliver on our design principles, with an emphasis on building to enable flexibility and scale. You will own Springboard’s learning and development programs end-to-end, including designing the strategy, establishing operating models and processes, measuring results, and scaling our team.  You will lead a talented team of individuals with diverse teaching, research, and learning science backgrounds across instructional design, copywriting, and quality assurance roles that design, build, and evaluate the Springboard learning experience. As Director, you will leverage the team’s established course quality score and course analysis process to continuously improve our product offerings.

This role is also highly cross-functional and requires collaboration with many other roles including internal cross-functional teams (e.g. Product, Marketing), SMEs (both internal and external), and of course, our community of students, mentors, and coaches. Demonstrated experience collaborating with product and engineering teams is preferred. This role reports directly to the Chief Product Officer and serves as part of the leadership for the Learning, Design, Product, and Engineering teams.

Salary range: $196,000-$205,000 USD annually. Individual compensation packages are based on a few different factors unique to each candidate, including their skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

Principal Responsibilities:

    • Direct internal day-to-day project operations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to product design specifications.

    • Grow and lead a team of instructional designers and learning science experts who will develop new courses or improve the ones we deliver. Provide leadership to the learning team by fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

    • Ensure current course development processes and systems (templates, models, evaluation techniques, and theoretical approaches to design) allow subject matter experts and learning designers to  “plug in” course content and details in a way that generates predictable results and do not require SMEs to understand course design theory.

    • Track and analyze shifts in the learning & development industry as well as general learning theory to ensure our designs are aligned with leading research literature and best practices

    • Bring your background in working with education technology products to collaborate with product managers and designers to best apply learning science to create interventions that improve student outcomes.

    • Evaluate product improvement ideas against academic research, market research, and an in-depth knowledge of current educational practice and the workflow of an adult learner looking to upsell or reskill.

    • Relentlessly track and evaluate processes, programs and learning methodologies for opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency of development and delivery for both new and established products to improve learning outcomes based on engagement and improved performance.

    • Conduct robust needs assessments and identify clear outcomes to ensure impact of Springboard offerings.

    • Facilitate stakeholder collaboration and design thinking sessions to prioritize and define course development initiatives.

    • Provide strategic guidance in the development of future initiatives, especially those that involve the expansion of our products into the B2B (e.g. Springboard for Business) space to grow workforce skills at scale.

    • Provide cross-departmental learning design support and expertise for all appropriate initiatives, including partner and client presentations, business strategy market research, analytics and more.

You:

    • 3+ years of people management experience with responsibility for business results in a fast-paced, multi-function environment

    • 7+ years of experience with course/curriculum/instructional design

    • Experience managing or building a framework to measure learning outcomes and effectiveness for a variety of scenarios with a keen ability to understand, analyze, and communicate learning data.

    • Significant strategic research and analysis experience with a strong understanding of how to build a compelling, data-driven business case

    • Uncanny ability to keep existing work on track while improving it and launching the next version - comfort launching imperfect things and taking tough decisions on priorities

    • Experience delivering learning at scale
