The Department of Mathematics at Colorado State University is one of eight departments in the College of Natural Sciences. The Department has a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as excellence in research. Faculty research interests include algebra, analysis, combinatorics, differential equations, geometry, inverse problems, math education, mathematical modeling, number theory, scientific computing, topology, as well as applications of all these areas. The Department is home to approximately 200 undergraduate majors, 68 graduate students, several postdoctoral fellows and research associates, and 43 regular faculty members (31 tenure-track).

Position Summary
The Department Chair serves as the chief administrative officer of the
department and is appointed by the Dean of Natural Sciences. With the aid of appropriate departmental committees, the Chair institutes recommendations for appointments, promotion, contract renewal, tenure, salary increases, and dismissals; manages the department budget and teaching assignments; and is the direct liaison between the department and the university administration. The Chair is expected to provide dynamic leadership conducive to excellence in research, instruction, and outreach. As chief representative of the department, the Chair is expected to be an individual of demonstrated scholarship and actively engaged in research. The Chair is also expected to effectively represent the department to the university and the Mathematical community at large.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Proven record of excellence in research and teaching

  • Evidence of effective leadership in an administrative role

  • Doctoral degree in Mathematics or a Mathematics-related field

  • Experience at the rank of Full Professor or comparable experience at a research institution. (Comparable experience: Senior level key personnel position as a Senior Scientist, Project Manager, or Director in charge of scientific projects, accountable for budget, and supervisor of personnel.)

  • Engaged in an active research program

  • Interested in participating in undergraduate and/or graduate instruction and outreach to the wider community.
